Emergency crews from the Anchorage Police Department, Anchorage Fire Department and investigators are on the scene of a plane crash site at Beach Lake Road in Birchwood.

It’s unclear if the plane took off from the Birchwood Airport, though the crash site is approximately one mile away.

Officials on-site say the body recovery process has begun.

KTUU-TV reports that there were four fatalities in the crash.

Reports from the scene depict a widespread debris field littered with the tops of broken-off birch trees. Emergency vehicles were driven to the crash site on a muddy trail.
