A semi-truck trailer designed to carry larger loads of liquefied natural gas to market in Fairbanks will get a tryout next month on Alaska highways.
The Alaska Dispatch reports the five-axle trailer carries up to 13,000 gallons of LNG, the maximum allowed by state law. That’s 2,000 gallons more than can be hauled in trailers now from Point MacKenzie.
Western Cascade Trucking Equipment in Tukwila, Washington, helped design the trailer and is marketing the trailer for Heil Trailer International, which is based in Tennessee.
The Alaska Industrial Development and Export Authority owns the utility that delivers liquefied gas to about 1,100 customers in the Fairbanks area.
Spokesman Karsten Rodvik says AIDEA (AY’-dah) will review the trailer’s performance on highway demonstration runs.
