The Coast Guard is responding to a fuel spill in southeastern Cook Inlet.
The Alaska Dispatch News reports that a 116-foot landing craft called Thor’s Hammer was sailing from Seward to Bristol Bay Saturday when it encountered heavy seas.
The Coast Guard press release says a 9,000 gallon diesel tank the boat was carrying was punctured near where Cook Inlet meets the Gulf of Alaska.
The Coast Guard said its Cutter Mustang was en route to the scene on Saturday.
The release says the boat’s owner is working to contain and clean up the fuel. The Coast Guard says personnel from several federal and state agencies will also help.
