Thousands of Alaskans are expected to participate in a big earthquake drill this week.
State officials say more than 46,000 Alaskans have signed up to participate in the Great Alaskan ShakeOut at 10:17 a.m. Thursday.
The drill is part of ShakeOut events that include states, territories and countries, including more than 17.4 million people. Last year was the first time Alaska participated.
According to officials, participants of the Great Alaskan ShakeOut will be asked to “drop, cover and hold on.”
Alaska is seismically active and officials say the drill also is a time for Alaskans to review and update emergency plans and supplies.
