Gov. Sean Parnell has appointed the director of the Alaska State Troopers as acting Public Safety commissioner.
Col. Keith Mallard will take over for Joe Masters, who last month announced his resignation after five years as commissioner. Masters’ resignation was to be effective Tuesday.
According to biographical information provided by Parnell’s office, Mallard has worked for the Public Safety department for 16 years. He transferred to the Alaska Bureau of Alcohol and Drug Enforcement in 2005, serving as deputy commander. A year later, he was promoted and assigned as the commander of the agency, where he served until December 2010.
