The Institute of Social and Economic Research at the University of Alaska Anchorage has a new director.
Gunnar Knapp has been named to the post, after acting as interim director since January.
The institute, in a release, said Knapp has been on the faculty since 1981 and is known for his studies of Alaska’s commercial fisheries and other aspects of the state’s economy.
Knapp says he sees the job as an opportunity to work with colleagues on “complex and fascinating social and economic issues” and to make a difference in helping Alaskans understand and address those issues.
