One person has been killed in a trooper-involved shooting on the Glenn Highway north of Anchorage.
Alaska State Trooper spokeswoman Beth Ipsen says a man was killed Friday morning in an exchange of gunfire with a trooper. Ipsen says the man was shot after leading law enforcement on a chase that began in Wasilla.
Ipsen says there was an exchange of gunfire at about 4:20 a.m. Friday near the Thunderbird Falls exit at mile post 25 of the highway – the main artery into Anchorage.
The shooting resulted in lengthy delays for rush-hour traffic going both north and south. The northbound lanes where the shooting occurred remain closed. Traffic heading north is being rerouted around the area.
Both southbound lanes to Anchorage now are open.
