A skier died in an avalanche at Hatcher Pass Saturday. By all accounts, James Helling, 65, of Palmer was very experienced, but the snow just let go when he went on it. Surviving with injuries was 54-year-old Jerry Kallam of Palmer. They dug Helling out Sunday morning.
