Senate candidate Joe Miller’s lead over incumbent Senator Lisa Murkowski continued to shrink Tuesday as election officials began counting absentee and other ballots.
As of late in the afternoon, he held only a 1,210 lead.
The Republican primary has generated national headlines since last Tuesday’s election and the tightness of the race as fueled tense relations between the two campaigns.
Going into Tuesday’s count, Miller led Murkowski by 1,668 votes.
The Alaska Division of Elections is expected to count more than 25,000 votes.
