The poet Homer called the ocean a “whale road.” Some people in the town of Homer seem to have a similar inspiration. They are inaugurating a water trail on Kachemak Bay. The bay is already a center of activity for all kinds of marine activities, and Kachemak Bay State Park on the south side may be the best place in Alaska for self-guided trips off the road system, where you can paddle from trailhead to trailhead.
