This week we're hearing from Mary Miner from Anchorage. Miner helped to develop “Raven’s Roost” community living space, and is spending this winter at her cabin in Talkeetna.

The bottom 8 inches of the first 682-foot ice core (of two) collected from Mt. Hunter. Imbedded pebbles and discolored ice indicate that this represents the bottom of the glacier in contact with underlying rock. This ice is at least 5,000 years old, and most likely 20,000 years old. Climate warming demonstrated in ice core samples of the Alaska Range

While the full swing climbing season in the Alaska Range has yet to begin, the planning stages for various groups are underway. The National Park Service, air taxis and mountaineering groups are figuring out their upcoming 2019 climbing logistics.
