Mat-Su Ferry Saga Continues; and Coastal Zone Management Debates Heat Up

BP has very poor quarterly report. The ongoing saga of the Mat-Su ferry continues. Debates over the coastal zone management initiative heat up. Alaska Native suicide rates remain high. A Valdez couple admits to failing to pay $190,000 in income taxes and penalties. Around 4,000 summer fisheries workers in a government-sponsored program won’t be returning next year. The Fisheries Board throws a lifeline to set netters. The state of Alaska puts out new regulations dealing with one aspect of abortion. Berlin, Paris and London-Part Two

I’ve been in love with art history since 10th grade when I got to dump my Latin textbook for Janson’s “History of Art.” Now that my last child is a senior at NYU, it seemed time I visited those French works in Janson.  With that in mind, husband Dave and I left Berlin on an easyJet for Paris—warning, hungover passengers and no pre-assigned seats on budget european airlines. AK: Libraries

A library is more than a collection of books. In a small town like Sutton in the Matanuska Valley, the library serves many functions. It’s a meeting place for people of all ages, a storehouse of information, and a door allowing a peek into the community’s past. Sutton residents have worked for years to raise funds for a new library, and last month, that dream became reality.

Oil Prices Subside; and Joe Miller Becomes A Publisher

As the election campaign heats up, we have seen a reincarnation of the group Backbone, which has interjected itself not only in the oil-tax debate but the elections. Formerly under law enforcement, it is now under commerce. Former Republican Senate nominee Joe Miller has become an on-line publisher.
