For many residents of Tenakee Springs, in Southeast Alaska, life revolves around the community bath house, which is fed by the hot springs that give the town its name. Now, this old local institution is receiving a very 21st century renovation, as local people have raised money to convert the building to geothermal heat, putting a modern spin on the town’s ancient resource.

A Season for Preparation and Closure

This time of the year is usually bitter sweet for me. If you have been outside lately, you are sure to have noticed the leaves starting to turn. The kids are back in school, and the Alaska State Fair is in full swing. Sweaters and hats will soon be pulled from summer storage and an inventory of winter gear is in order. Read more.

Ballot Propositions Fall; Young Wins Republican Nomination

Both ballot propositions fall in the Primary Election. Two Republic incumbents lose their primary election bids. Approximately 10 new members join the Alaska House of Representatives. Don Young takes the Republican nomination in dominating fashion. Voter turnout comes in at under 25 percent. Alaska Jazz Workshop Fall Registration

On August 11, 2012 Alaska Jazz Workshop Faculty Jazz Sextet Concert performed featuring internationally acclaimed Jazz Bari Saxophonist Denis Dibasio. Mountain View Park Re-designed by Local Kids

Nestled in a Mountain View neighborhood behind the Boys and Girls Clubhouse and across from Clark Middle School, the aging William B. Lyons Park was badly in need of a makeover. Re-designed last summer by a group of imaginative middle schoolers, their idea of a small amphitheater for community performances and festivals is now a reality. Read more.
