Anchorage Mayor Presents Budget; and Energy Companies Propose LNG Pipeline Plan

Mayor Dan Sullivan presents the assembly with two versions of the Anchorage Municipal budget. Mayor Sullivan sticks with the sidewalk law. The major Alaska energy companies estimate that a liquefied natural gas project would cost up to $65 billion. BP paid Republican Senate candidate Bob Bell's firm $1 million for contract work. Early voting has already started in other states, especially Ohio. In Alaska you can vote early by absentee ballot - in person - 15 days out from the election. A “Totally Weird” Dinosaur

A couple of summers ago, David Tomeo was exploring a creekbed in Denali National Park, preparing for a field seminar on the park’s dinosaurs he would help lead a few weeks later. With a trained eye for the impressions dinosaurs pressed into mud millions of years ago, Tomeo walked to a large boulder in the middle of a landslide. Right in the center of it, a four-toed track stood out. Read more.

Filipino Stories Exhibit Opens in Kodiak

Although Filipino-Americans have lived and worked on Kodiak Island for more than 150 years and make up more than 35 percent of Kodiak’s current-day population, there has never been a museum exhibit or published research on the island documenting their contributions to Kodiak’s culture and history. Until now. Kodiak’s Filipino Community Stories, a digital storytelling exhibit, opens Friday, October 5 at the Baranov Museum. Read more.
