This week, Alaska commemorates the 50th Anniversary of the Great Alaska Earthquake. The calamity destroyed whole towns, took lives and still stands as the largest earthquake to ever rock North America. KSKA will take a look at how one Alaska Community, Seward, rose to the challenge of rebuilding after the quake and seven tidal waves flattened most of the town. That's on A Closer Look, on KSKA . The weather has been warm and beautiful, the days are getting noticeably longer, and the snow is slowly melting. The list of restaurants Kendo Shine has cooked in is staggering. From diners to Mongolian BBQ to fine dining, Kendo has been around the culinary world a few times, but he truly found a home when he bought a small trailer and started cooking, what he calls, Kendo-style food in Anchorage's industrial area.

You see them zipping around Turnagain Arm and in the backcountry. Brightly colored kites and their human drivers adorn Alaska's airspace, harnessing the wind to power an extreme sport. You might not expect an ancient Aboriginal instrument from Australia to find its way to Alaska. But walk around downtown Ketchikan on a warm day and you may hear 15-year-old Kinani Halvorsen playing her didgeridoo. She’s played the unusual instrument for three years. The Blood Bank of Alaska is a member of an international network of sites conducting research to prevent, delay and reverse the progression of Type I diabetes. It’s been a tough year for snow, with warm temperatures across the state making trails conditions less than ideal. No one knows that better than the 1,300 skiers that hit the trails for the Tour of Anchorage. But trails, even in this not-so-wintery winter, bring people together to get outside and have some fun.
