This week on Addressing Alaskans we're hearing a debate about Ballot Measure 2, regarding ranked-choice voting and campaign finance disclosures. Proponents say Alaskans need more options and transparency in their elections. Opponents say the initiative would make voting unnecessarily complicated.

Closing the gender pay gap will change what it means to be a working woman in Alaska, but it will only happen with community support and participation. Mouhcine Guettabi, an associate professor of economics at UAA and a member of the Institute of Social and Economic Research (ISER) spoke to members of the Anchorage Chamber of Commerce on Monday and explained how the governor’s vetoes would affect Alaska’s Economy.

This week on Addressing Alaskans we're hearing from Nick ‘Iligutchiak’ Hanson, better known as " The Eskimo Ninja" from the T.V. show "American Ninja Warrior." Hanson was the first Inuit to compete on the physically demanding show requiring contestants to maneuver through a high-tech obstacle course. His experiences growing up around substance abuse and mental illness in rural Alaska made him want to share his story, bridge cultural divides, and inspire the next generation.

Many questions remain in the wake of Gov. Bill Walker's move to unilaterally expand Medicaid in the state of Alaska. How will the state coordinate funding for the program with the federal government? And how will Walker coordinate with a Legislature that is taking action to upend the expansion effort? Walker and DHSS Commissioner Valerie Davidson recently tackled these questions at an annual health policy conference in Anchorage. Hear what they had to say on the next Addressing Alaskans.
