300 Villages: Gakona

Instead of heading to a village this week, we’re going to visit the Gakona Lodge and it’s owner Greg Marshall and his wife Valerie. The historic roadhouse is located in the Copper River Valley and was established in the early 1900′s for travelers on the Eagle/Valdez trail.

300 Villages: Akhiok

This week, we’re visiting Akhiok, a tiny Aluet Community on the southern tip of Kodiak Island. That was David Eluska Senior, Tribal Administrator for the villages of Akhiok.

300 Villages: Nikolaevsk

Now its time for 300 villages. This week, we’re visiting the Russian Old Believer village Nikolaevsk, on the Kenai Peninsula with Nina from the village of Nikolaevsk.

300 Villages: Venetie

This week, we’re going to Venetie, an Interior community above the Arctic Circle. Eddie Frank is the tribal administrator for Venetie.

300 Villages: Petersburg

This week, we’re heading to another island community – Petersburg, in Southeast Alaska. That was Sally Norheim Dwyer, executive director of the Petersburg Chamber of Commerce.

300 Villages: Pilot Station

This week we’re visiting Pilot Station, a Yup’ik Eskimo village on the Yukon River that’s home to about 600 people. Abraham Kelly is the postmaster in Pilot Station.

300 Villages: Seward

What community do marathon runners, dog mushers and railroad buffs have in common? If you guessed Seward, you’re right. The city is located at the tip of the Kenai Peninsula on beautiful Resurrection Bay, and Friday, Seward celebrates its one hundredth birthday.

300 Villages: Tatitlek

This week, were visiting Tatitlek, a tiny village in Prince William Sound, south of Valdez. That was David Totemoff Senior, Tatitlek’s IRA Council President.

300 Villages: Nenana

This week, we’re featuring Nenana, the interior village that’s home to the famous ice classic lottery. The community is located where the Nenana and Tanana rivers meet. Robin Campbell is Tribal Administrator in Nenana.

300 Villages: Fort Yukon

This week were heading to the Athabascan community of Fort Yukon in Interior Alaska.

300 Villages: St. Paul

The community is located on a small island in the Bering Sea where there are many more fur seals than people. Aqualina Lestinkof lives on St. Paul island.

300 Villages: Wales

This week, we’re on our way to Wales, a Bering Sea community about 100 miles north of Nome. Frank Crisci is the mayor of Wales.

300 Villages: Lime Village

Now its time for 300 villages. Today were heading to Lime Village, a tiny community directly west of Anchorage. Ursula Graham is the Tribal Administrator for the Lime Village.

300 Villages: Point Hope

This week, were going north to Point Hope. The community of about 800 people on the Chukchi Sea is anxiously waiting for the right conditions to begin spring whaling. Steve Oomittuk is the mayor of Point Hope.

300 Villages: Eek

This week, we're headed for Eek a small village west of Bethel near the Bering Sea Coast: Fritz Petluska is the City Clerk for Eek. 300 villages is AK's attempt to put every community in Alaska on the radio.

300 Villages: Unalakleet

And now it's time for our weekly trip around the state for 300 villages. This week, we're visiting Unalakleet where the excitement of the Iditarod has just wrapped up. That was Jilleen Johnson who runs Cool Beans coffee shop in Unalakleet.

300 Villages: Koyuk

Now its time for our weekly trip around the state. This week, in honor of the Iditarod, we’re heading to the Norton Sound community of Koyuk. The village is eagerly anticipating the mushers’ arrival. That was Darin Douglas, mayor of Koyuk.

This year's field features 66 mushers, with Ray Redington Jr. drawing the number two bib. Dave Olson is this year's honorary musher and will be wearing number one. Read more to see the full field.

300 Villages: Homer

Now it’s time for 300 villages, AK’s weekly trip around the state. This week’s village is a magnet for artists, kayakers, photographers and visitors to the state, not to mention fishermen. If you guessed Homer on the Kenai Peninsula, you’re right. This week we speak with Monty Davis, director of Homer’s Chamber of Commerce.

300 Villages: Dot Lake

Now its time for 300 villages. This week, we’re off to Dot Lake, an interior community of about 45 people. That was Bill Miller, President of the Dot Lake Village Council.
