Anchorage economic outlook slow to moderate

Consumers in Anchorage are feeling positive. The city's Consumer Optimism Index has reached a four-year high -- 63 out of 100. The score is based on random phone surveys of at least 350 households. But the Anchorage Economic Development Corporation says that doesn't mean everything is looking up. The three-year outlook for Anchorage shows only slow to moderate economic growth.

Alaska GOP Gov. Dunleavy seeks to oust Democratic chair of oil and gas watchdog agency

Mushing Legend George Attla Dies

Alaska Native dog mushing great George Attla has died. The sprint champion known as “The Huslia Hustler” died of cancer on Sunday at the Alaska Native Medical Center in Anchorage. He was 81. Attla’s impact spanned from success in racing to helping village kids connect with mushing.

Fuel May Have Leaked From Kulluk Lifeboats After Grounding

It looks like there was a spill from the Kulluk grounding after all. One of four life-boats dislodged and washed ashore as the huge rig grounded off Sitkalidik Island has at least two damaged fuel tanks. The rig itself has been towed to more sheltered waters and responders discovered the empty tanks while assessing materials washed to the the shoreline during the New Year's Eve grounding. The spill is estimated as under 270 gallons of diesel fuel. That estimate may rise as more tanks are examined on the four lifeboats.
