Vandals Drive Over Gravesites, Badly Damage Gazebo During Cemetery Joyride

Alaska State Troopers are investigating vandalism at the Delta Junction cemetery over the weekend. The vandals drove through the fence both on the way in and out of the cemetery and then ran over several gravesites on their way to the gazebo, which they nearly destroyed. Download Audio

Regulators Issue Trespass Notices for Kuskokwim Vessels

State regulators are issuing dozens of trespass notices for old vessels sitting in the Kuskokwim River. Some of the barges and boats pose navigational and safety hazards, while others are just tied up on state land without a permit. AK Firefighters Battling California Fires

More than 300 firefighters from across are Alaska are in California battling wildfires for at least the next two weeks. Most of them travelled from Interior Alaska villages for the Alaska Fire Service and the Alaska Division of Forestry. The crews came through Fairbanks before they left for the Lower 48.

FAA Advises Pilots on GPS Problems as Air Force Training Jams Signals

Armed Suspect Robs Anchorage Bank

Police are looking for information on an armed suspect who allegedly robbed an Anchorage bank Wednesday morning. First National Bank Alaska on Northern Lights Boulevard was robbed of an undisclosed amount of money after a subject arrived to a teller station, displayed a gun and presented a note demanding money.

As Project Chariot Clean-Up Ends, Legacy Lingers for Point Hope

During the Cold War, the U.S. Atomic Energy Agency made plans to detonate nuclear bombs a few dozen miles from Point Hope. The idea–part of Operation Ploughshares–was to make an Arctic deep draft port by harnessing war-time technology for civil engineering projects with strategic value. With Capitol renovations on schedule, contractors get more work

The Alaska Legislative Council approved an additional $650,000 to its $5.8 million Capitol building renovation contract on Thursday. Demolition of the north wall of the west wing of the Capitol will proceed this fall, instead of in 2015. The updated contract won’t change the overall scope of the renovations in Juneau.
