APTI Reporter-Producer Ellen Lockyer started her radio career in the late 1980s, after a stint at bush Alaska weekly newspapers, the Copper Valley Views and the Cordova Times. When the Exxon Valdez ran aground in Prince William Sound, Valdez Public Radio station KCHU needed a reporter, and Ellen picked up the microphone.
Since then, she has literally traveled the length of the state, from Attu to Eagle and from Barrow to Juneau, covering Alaska stories on the ground for the AK show, Alaska News Nightly, the Alaska Morning News and for Anchorage public radio station, KSKA

Alaska Native Science and Engineering Program Teams Up With Matanuska Susitna Schools
Building a computer is child's play, or at least it ought to be. That's the premise behind an innovative concept in science and engineering education. The city of Seward and a Western Alaska CDQ group are working on a plan for a new harbor in the Southcentral community that could shelter a Bering Sea fishing fleet. JBER Soldier Sentenced To 16 Years In Prison For Espionage
An Army MP has been sentenced to 16 years in prison for espionage. 24- year-old William Colton Millay had pleaded guilty in March of this year to charges of attempted espionage, issuing false statements and communicating national defense information with intent to harm the US.

JBER Soldier To Be Sentenced Monday On Espionage Charges
A Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson soldier is to be sentenced Monday on espionage charges. Army Specialist William Colton Millay, 24, a military policeman, pleaded guilty before a military judge in Anchorage in March to attempted espionage, issuing a false statement and communicating national defense information, among other charges.

MEA Rate Hike Linked to Chugach Electric Rate Increase
Matanuska Electric Association is to pay more for power, while the Regulatory Commission of Alaska investigates Chugach Electric request for rate increase. MEA customers will see higher bills in the mail next month. The hike is linked to a rate increase granted to Chugach Electric Association for thepower it sells to MEA. The rate increase began on Monday, April 8.
Legislature Votes Vince Webster Off The Board Of Fisheries
A joint House and Senate vote today (Monday) approved almost all of Governor Parnell's appointments to various state boards and commissions, all but one. Vince Webster, Parnell's choice for re-appointment for a third three year term on the state Board of Fisheries, was turned down by a one- vote margin.
AK Moose Federation Breaks New Ground
The Alaska Moose Federation is working with an Alaska Native entity on a moose diversion project near Big Lake. The Federation has announced a partnership with the Alaska Operating Engineers and Employers Training to use heavy equipment to spur willow growth on up to 200 acres of land owned by the Knikatnu [ Knik AT noo ] Native Corporation.

Anchorage Police says four men, ages 19 - 21, have been arrested in the alleged assault of a seventeen year old homeless girl.
Mat-Su Schools Anticipating Staff Cuts
The Matanska Susitna Borough’s School District is anticipating staff reductions in the coming school year. District teacher contracts are in negotiation, and no proposals have been submitted yet, but the school district’s current financial outlook could result in 45 positions being eliminated.

Fisheries Board Raises Late-Run Chinook Escapement Goal
Southcentral Alaska sport fishermen are applauding a move by the state’s Board of Fisheries aimed at ensuring escapement goals for Kenai River late – run Chinook salmon. The Board voted unanimously to approve substitute language for a proposal that would have triggered emergency management measures based on the run’s failure to achieve a specific escapement goal of 15,000 fish.

Board of Fisheries Meeting In Anchorage
The state Board of Fisheries started its meeting in Anchorage Tuesday. Board members heard Alaska Fish and Game staff reports, as well as one from the Upper Cook Inlet Task Force.
