Julie Dirks arrived in Nome, Alaska from Southern California in 1974. In the decades since, she has lived in Nome, Atka, and Unalaska/Dutch Harbor. Past career activities include City Administrator, Tribal Administrator for an IRA Council, Grant Writer, State Local Government Specialist, and Accountant/Bookkeeper for a statewide non-profit and at an ANCSA village corporation.
Julie is married to Moses Dirks, an Unangan (Aleut), who is a Native language linguist and retired teacher. One of her two daughters resides in Unalaska/Dutch Harbor. The other is a Phd candidate specializing in Information Technology at the University of Washington.
