APD detains suspect following fatal Thanksgiving Day shooting

Anchorage police have detained a man sought in connection with a Thanksgiving Day fatal shooting.

The 27-year-old suspect had not been formally charged as of early Friday.

Police shortly after 3 p.m. Thursday took a call regarding a shooting and responded to an apartment complex on McCarrey Street in northeast Anchorage.

Officers found an injured woman in one of the apartments. She had suffered a gunshot wound to her upper body.

Police say she was transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries and she later died. Her name was not immediately released.

Police identified a suspect and launched a search.

The suspect was taken into custody for questioning by officers in the area shortly after 8:30 p.m.
