A statement from Sullivan’s office says that he was diagnosed with appendicitis earlier in the day, and was “in good health” following the surgery.

The procedure coincided with the Senate Judiciary hearing over sexual assault allegations made against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.

A spokesman for Sullivan says the senator plans to review the entire hearing today.
