Calista Corporation has awarded nearly $290,000 in scholarships this year to Alaskan university students, according to a company press release.
For the fall semester, more than 300 students from across the Calista region applied for the funds.
Most of the students are pursing bachelor’s degrees in business and education fields, according to the release. The average GPA for applications was 3.08, but applications with a GPA as low as a 2.0 were eligible, as well.
The program began a little over two decades ago and grants scholarships to Calista shareholders and their descendants.
