Former Natural Resources Commissioner Dan Sullivan won the Republican primary for U.S. Senate. He will run against incumbent Democrat Mark Begich who easily won renomination Tuesday. In other races, incumbent House Rep. Don Young, Republican, easily won the GOP ticket. He’ll be challenged by Forrest Dunbar, who wins the Democratic nomination with almost 63 percent of the primary vote.

Byron Mallott will be the Democratic nominee for Alaska governor; he’ll go up against incumbent governor Sean Parnell, who easily won in the primary, as expected. Former Natural Resources Commissioner Dan Sullivan is leading the Republican race for U.S. Senate. With more than half the vote counted, Sullivan is up by 39 percent, so it appears likely he’ll be the one who faces Sen. Mark Begich in the General. Fairbanks Attorney Joe Miller is holding down second place, with 33 percent, and Lt. Gov. Mead Treadwell is trailing with 24 percent. The Sullivan campaign has been blocking reporters from entering his party at a restaurant near Election Central. A spokesman said they’ll have no statement until the race is called.

Other contested state races are developing as follows:

  • Incumbent U.S. Sen. Mark Begich is the frontrunner in the Democratic U.S. Senate primary
  • Forrest Dunbar is looking to be the Democratic challenger for U.S. Representative; incumbent U.S. Rep. Don Young is the Republican nominee
  • In the race for Governor, incumbent Republican Sean Parnell is up front, while Democrat Byron Mallott is in the lead to be the Democratic challenger
  • Anchorage mayor Dan Sullivan is in the lead to be the Republican nominee for Lieutenant Governor
