Alaska’s wildfires continue to burn, with two new ones reported northwest of Kantishna, in the heart of Denali National Park.
The Chisana Creek fire in Wrangell Saint Elias National Park is not being fought, but authorities plan to set up a headquarters in Beaver Creek, Canada to keep watch on it. They warn travelers on the Alaska Highway that smoke may impede visibility in that area. Firefighters from the Lower 48 have been flown up from Oregon to Fairbanks to help fight wildfires.
Lime Village is now protected by a mile-wide fire-break as the Lime Hills fire continues to grow. It is now at about 238 square miles.
