US House Votes on ‘No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act’

Libby Casey, APRN – Washington DC

That Republican vote in the U.S. House to block any government funding connected to abortion Wednesday included Alaska’s Don Young. 16 Democrats joined Republicans in that vote.
The bill, named the “No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act” would make permanent the Hyde Amendment, which bans government dollars for abortion and has to be renewed annually.

It would get rid of tax credits for small businesses that give their employees health coverage if the policies cover abortion and would stop flexible spending plans people pay for with pre-tax money from covering abortion. Republicans see it as a move against the health care law signed last year. Democrats say it would hurt small businesses and equals a tax hike on insurance companies.
