79-year-old Charlotte Fitzhugh lives in a converted school bus in Fairbanks, Alaska. 20 years ago, she decided to run in the 1,000-mile-long Yukon Quest Sled Dog Race. She bought some dogs and gear, and, with very little training, headed out on the trail. She told her neighbor, Steve Keller, that many refused to help her because they thought she would die.
