Anchorage grown, Dr. Karin von Hippel has conducted research for the United Nations, the European Union and now the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in Washington. The day after the September 11th attacks, Dr. von Hippel began studying “The Root Causes of Terrorism,” with the CSIS. She insists terrorist movements cannot be stopped by military means alone. Instead, the United States must focus on providing social services and education reform in order to effectively combat terrorism in communities around the world.
