Of all the coastal states, Alaska does the best job of taking care of its fisheries — by far. The rockfish population off the coast of California has crashed due to overfishing, and foreign fishing fleets are still decimating corals and sea-mounts in the high seas. A few years ago, two prestigious commissions called for stronger government action to protect the oceans. That push is continuing, as we will learn on this week’s Talk of Alaska.
